A couple of weeks ago, we posted about a new Colorado resort that would replace the hotel in the resort community, the Wilderness Lodge.
The lodge dispensary is the first Colorado resort we’ve heard of that has opened for business in 2019.
It’s the first recreational resort in the state.
The Wilderness Lodge opened its doors for business last week in the Denver area.
“It’s going to be the first resort that is going to provide recreational marijuana in a state where it’s legal, with a minimum age of 21, and we are going to have the best quality of marijuana we can possibly provide,” Colorado State Parks Director Doug Johnson told the Denver Post.
So far, there’s a $1.9 million bond in place to pay for the $2.6 million cost of the lodge.
There’s a lot of anticipation about this new development in the area.
It was built to attract visitors to Colorado, and it’s been attracting them to Denver, Johnson said.
“I think that’s what we need to do,” Johnson said of the new development.
“The idea behind it is to attract a younger, more adventurous population that wants to spend more time in the mountains and not be tied down by the state’s strict regulations,” he said.
The new recreational marijuana is expected to provide a boost to the local economy, as well as the local tourism industry.
Johnson told us the lodge’s owners hope to create jobs.
They’ve already received a lot from the local hospitality industry, Johnson told Denver7.
“It’s a pretty incredible opportunity.”
The lodge will also provide an opportunity for tourists to spend some time with family and friends, as it has a large backyard and patio.
The outdoor dining area will be used as a social gathering spot, with more seating for families and friends.
For the lodging industry, it could be a boost.
Johnson said the lodge has already been a success.
“They’ve had a lot more reservations than they expected,” he told Denver 7.
“There’s more than 500 reservations already signed up.
They’re very excited about this and are very happy about it.”
There’s still a long way to go, but it’s an exciting time for recreational marijuana legalization in Colorado.
