The Cat Island Sanctuary is a private community off the coast of Cat Island, Maine, located on the northern tip of Cat Isle, off the southern end of the Maine coastline.
It is home to more than 1,000 cats, dogs, turtles, ferrets, birds and a host of other species.
It was founded in 1985 and has since received the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2018 Endangered Species Conservation Award.
A portion of the funds goes to research into cats’ ecology, shelter cats, and cat care.
